Met Éireann has said that high pressure will dominate our weather this week bringing mostly dry and settled conditions.
The national meteorological service said that temperatures will be warmer until the middle of the week when it will turn cooler from the north.
It will be mainly dry today (Monday, April 28) with any patchy rain and drizzle in western and northern areas dying out this morning. Long spells of hazy sunshine will develop later for many parts.
There will be highest afternoon temperatures of 14° to 19°C, feeling warmest over the northern half of the country. South to southeast breezes will be light to moderate, fresh at times on some coasts.
Tonight will be dry with a mixture of cloud and clear spells. Some mist or fog patches will form in the in light southeast or variable breezes in land. The breeze will be moderate to fresh along western and southern coasts. Overnight lows of 6° to 9°.
Weather
Tuesday will be warm and dry with plenty of hazy sunshine, after the mist and fog patches clear.
Highest temperatures of 17° to 21° in light to moderate south to southeast or variable breezes, fresher near southwestern coasts.
On Tuesday night, it will be dry with variable cloud cover. Lowest overnight temperatures of 7° to 11°. Mist and fog will form in the light southerly or variable breezes overland.
It will be warm and mostly sunny on Wednesday, some showers are possible in the afternoon but for most areas, it will stay dry.
Light to moderate south to southwest breezes, becoming mostly light and variable in the evening. Highest temperatures of 18° to 22°.
On Wednesday night most areas will be dry to start, cloud will build in the northwest and push southeastwards bringing some light rain and drizzle in places.
Lowest temperatures of 7° to 11° in light variable breezes which will become light northerly later.
Conditions will be cloudier on Thursday with a few light showers and some sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 11° to 15° in Connacht and Ulster, 15° to 19° in Munster and Leinster.
The northerly winds will be light to moderate, fresh at times along southwest coasts.
There will be a bright start to Friday in the east and south, but cloudy conditions will extend from the northwest by the afternoon, with some light showers possible.
The sunny spells will increase again by evening. Highest temperatures of 13° to 17° in mostly light northerly breezes.
The current indications are that high pressure will continue to dominate over Ireland next weekend bringing mostly settled conditions.
Met Éireann
Met Éireann noted that it was much wetter than normal over the past week, with rainfall amounts between 1.3 and 3 times the average in most areas.
The coming seven days will be mark a change with many weather stations expected to remain completely dry, others may have just 1mm and the far northwest may have accumulations of up to 2mm.
It will be very mild this week with mean air temperatures of 12° to 14° expected widely, a little cooler in the north. This equates to between 2° and 4° above the average for the time of year.
Mean soil temperatures ranged between 9.5° and 12.4° last week, which is between 1.7° and 3.3° above normal values. Mean soil temperatures will increase further this week.
Met Éireann said that there will be good opportunities for spraying over the coming week with plenty of dry and warm weather with good sunshine.
With mostly warm and dry conditions over the next seven days, soil moisture deficits will increase throughout the country, ranging from 14 to 24mm for well and moderately drained soils with most becoming trafficable. Poorly drained soils will likely range between 7 and 17mm.
